Rishabh Pant on Wednesday launched a brutal assault with the bat against Venkatesh Iyer, smashing 28 runs in what was the most expensive over of the IPL 2024 fixture between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Visakhapatnam. Delhi suffered a top-order collapse in the colossal chase of 273, losing their top four batters within the Powerplay. DC skipper Rishabh Pant tried bailing his team out of the precarious situation and joined Tristan Stubbs in a 93-run stand as both batters scored their respective half-centuries.

Iyer then bowled a poor delivery down the leg side while crouched in his stance to smash a no-look six over the fine leg fence before ending the over with a hat-trick of boundaries, also bringing up his second consecutive half-century this season.

Pant top-scored for DC with a 25-ball 55, including 4 boundaries and 5 sixes, while Stubbs hammered 4 sixes and as many fours to accumulate 54 runs off 32 balls. But once the partnership was broken, by Varun Chakravarthy in the 13th over, DC lost the plot completely. They were all out for 166 in 17.2 overs, losing the game by a massive margin of 106 runs.

Earlier, the seasoned Sunil Narine and young Angkrish Raghuvanshi struck scintillating half-centuries as Kolkata Knight Riders posted an imposing 272/7 after opting to bat first. Narine blasted 85 in a mere 39 balls while the 18-year-old Raghuvanshi smashed his way to 54 off 27 deliveries, as the DC bowlers ran for cover.

Andre Russell blazed away to 41 in just 19 balls while Rinku Singh made 26 in eight balls, continuing KKR’s dominance through the innings.
