Arshdeep Singh was on fire for India in the first T20I against Bangladesh. In the match played at Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior on Sunday (October 6), the 25-year-old pacer picked up three wickets for 14 runs in 3.5 overs. He opened his account by dismissing Litton Das on the fifth ball of the first over and then got rid of Parvez Hossain Emon in the next over. For his superb show with the ball, Arshdeep won the Player of the Match award.
The left-arm pacer, who finished as the joint-leading wicket-taker in the ICC T20 World Cup earlier this year, would like to maintain his super show in the second T20I as well, which is scheduled to take place at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday (October 9).
During the 2nd T20I against Bangladesh in Delhi, Arshdeep will have a chance to break Jasprit Bumrah’s record and become the second leading wicket-taker for India in the shortest format of the game. Bumrah, who won the Player of the Series award in the T20 World Cup 2024, has 89 wickets to his name in 70 T20Is played so far. On the other hand, since making his debut against England in July 2022, Arshdeep has picked up 86 wickets in 55 matches.

He needs four more wickets in the second T20I to break Bumrah’s record. If he manages to take a five-wicket haul in Delhi, then he will overtake Bhuvneshwar Kumar and become India’s most successful pacer in T20Is. Bhuvneshwar has 90 wickets to his name in 87 T20Is for India.
