Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will square off in the second ODI of the three-match series on Friday, March 15 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. Bangladesh, after losing the T20I series 2-1, made the perfect start to the ODIs by registering a fantastic six-wicket win. Batting first, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 255 without completing their 50 overs. Skipper Kusal Mendis scored a decent 59 off 75 balls, while all-rounder Janith Liyanage top-scored for the visitors with a 69-ball 67. In reply, Bangladesh were in jeopardy after a batting collapse, losing their first three wickets inside the powerplay. Left-arm quick Dilshan Madushanka started the proceedings by dismissing Litton Das off the very first delivery. Madushanka added one more wicket, while Pramod Madushan scalped the wicket of Towhid Hridoy to leave Bangladesh reeling at 23-3 inside six overs.
Newly-appointed skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, eventually, stood tall and played a captain’s knock. Najmul scored 122 (not out) and was ably supported by Mahmudullah first, and then by Mushfiqur Rahim, with the wicketkeeper scoring an unbeaten 73 to raise a 165-run stand with the captain.
