'CSK, Please Get MS Dhoni up the Order': Australia Legend's Request After MSD's Scintillating Show in Vizag
MS Dhoni has been batting lower down the order for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024 but his latest exploits may force a rethink.

MS Dhoni was at his explosive best during a whirlwind knock against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024 match on Sunday night. Having walked in to bat at no.8, Dhoni smashed an unbeaten 37 off 16 deliveries as Chennai Super Kings fell short of the target of 192 in Vizag for their first defeat of the season.

Dhoni has been penciled in to bat in the lower order for CSK who bat deep. The 42-year-old wicketkeeper batter thus is expected to play a limited role with the bat this year considering.

He didn’t bat in CSK’s first two games as they recorded comfortable win. However, against DC, they lost their top-six batters meaning Dhoni finally walked in to bat for the first time in IPL 2024.

Dhoni then effortlessly began clearing the boundary as he belted four fours and clobbered three sixes during his entertaining innings. The form shown by the former skipper though may force CSK to rethink his batting position and Australia fast bowling legend Brett Lee has urged the team management to promote him up the order.

“He (Dhoni) was on tonight, he was not rusty. I do want more from him in terms of batting. Get yourself up the order. He is outstanding, his brain is still nice and sharp, CSK please get MS Dhoni up the order,” Lee said on JioCinema.

Former Australia allrounder Shane Watson who played under Dhoni’s captaincy at CSK feels the seasoned campaigner has delivered exactly what is expected of him.

“With MS Dhoni in this type of form – this is exactly what you want from him. His power and the skill he has got under pressure when the bowlers are really scrambling to execute, his ability to win a game out of nowhere we have seen so many times through his career. Some of his shots he played tonight, that’s as good a shot I have ever seen him play. The one over cover is one of the harder shots to play, but he is still doing it,” Watson said.
