The Kolkata Knight Riders brought an end to their 12-year curse at the Wankhede with a win over Mumbai Indians on Friday by 24 runs to break the longstanding losing streak at Mumbai’s home ground. A big positive for KKR will be the return to form of their star pacer, Mitchell Starc who finished with figures of 4/33 in 3.5 overs.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Australian international had a very short response to questions regarding the pressure on him with the record-setting price tag making him the most expensive player in IPL auction history with the franchise paying 24.75 crores for the quick bowler.
“I didn’t set my price tag, so it is what it is,” he said.

The 34-year-old made his return to the IPL after nine years. He previously represented the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Now he is back with KKR and is focused on putting in performances for the new franchise and is intent on helping them get a third title and also using the time to prepare himself for the upcoming T20 World Cup for which he has been picked in the national team.
“I haven’t thought too much about it. It’s T20 cricket, it’s not as demanding as Test match cricket. Physically (it is) not a problem and (it is a) fantastic lead-in to play here in the best T20 league in the world,” he said.

“You’re playing some high-quality cricket leading into the World Cup, a lot of players at this tournament are going to be at the World Cup. In that regard, it’s a great thing to see and test your skills,” he added.
With English players who have been picked in the 15-man squad leaving the tournament ahead of the playoffs to prepare with the national sides, there might be concerns that Australia might also follow suit. Starc understands this but remains focused on their upcoming game against Lucknow Super Giants.

“In terms of length of time, that’s part and parcel of international cricket. My main focus is in two days time play in Lucknow, the World Cup is next month. At this moment, it’s (about) trying to help KKR win the tournament,” he concluded.
