'Get The Tissues Ready': Jonny Bairstow Prepares for an Emotional Landmark 100th Test
Jonny Bairstow reckons it will be an emotional moment as the 34-year-old will reach his landmark 100th Test in the final fixture against India at Dharamsala.

England batter Jonny Bairstow revealed that his landmark 100th Test which is set to take place in Dharamsala will be an emotional moment in the cricketer’s long career.

Speaking ahead of the milestone moment, Bairstow had interacted during a pre-match press conference where he had a light-hearted take. He said, “We’re not doing anthems so that’s a good thing. But it will be an emotional week … I’m proud, you know what I’m like, an emotional guy so yeah, get the tissues ready,” he said on a lighter note.”

Despite the criticism regarding his form on the field, he has not had it easy growing up. The Yorkshire-based batter had traumatic moments during his childhood when his father David Bairstow who is also a former England wicketkeeper took his own life when Jonny was just eight years old. His mother, Janet also did not have it easy as she had to keep the family together whilst overcoming breast cancer twice.

Coincidentally Bairstow has also made his 100th appearance in ODIs against Dharamsala against Bangladesh in the recently concluded 2023 Cricket World Cup.

The wicketkeeper-batter went on to name his favourite ground and also praised the beauty of the HPCA stadium as well. He said,” Cape Town is my favourite but don’t think there is a more picturesque ground in the world than Dharamsala.”

Despite his poor form in the current series, the 34-year-old remains intent on pushing ahead and looks to deliver in the final fixture against India. The batter has only scored 170 runs in the four Tests so far.

He concluded by saying, “It would be nice! Like in every game, you put your best foot forward. No matter what it is, I’ll be going out there, chewing my gum, puffing my chest out and trying to have a good time with the other 10 blokes out there. Whatever the situation is, we’ll be going out there with smiles on our faces, like we have done in the whole series.”
