Gujarat Giants will kick start their Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 campaign against Mumbai Indians on Sunday evening. The two sides will make clash at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
In the inaugural edition of WPL, the Gujarat Giants had played their first game against the same opponents and faced a harrowing defeat, losing by 143 runs. In the reverse fixture, MI-W yet again defeated GG-W by 55 runs.
History will be on the side of the Harmanpreet Kaur-led outfit, having a 2-0 head-to-head record over Gujarat Giants in their favour.
The GG-W will be buoyed by some shrewd business conducted at the auction. They managed to rope in the services of Australia’s Phoebe Litchfield.
Meanwhile, the 2023 champions in MI-W will once again be the team to watch out for in WPL 2024. While they will have a serious headache when it comes to which four overseas players they should include in the playing XI, one young Indian player to keep an eye on would be Amandeep Kaur.
The 21-year-old left-arm spinner was signed for INR 10 lakhs by MI-W at the auctions and is coming into this tournament in red-hot form, thanks to her lethal spin wizardry in domestic cricket.
They started their campaign on Friday with a thrilling win over Delhi Capitals.
