'I Am Pumped': Pat Cummins Excited to Represent Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024
Pat Cummins is the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad for the upcoming 2024 Indian Premier League.

Australia skipper Pat Cummins has arrived at the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp and shared his excitement for the IPL 2024 season. A new era is set to begin for the 2016 IPL winners this year as they share a video of their new skipper for the 2024 T20 extravaganza. In the caption of the post, the franchise wrote, “Here’s what Patty had to say on his #FlameComing”. The cricketer responded by saying, “I am ready. I am pumped. Yeah…let’s go do it. I am excited. Great to be here. Can’t wait to get the season started. I know a fair few of the boys but a few guys I haven’t met yet. Can’t wait to get started”.

Pat Cummins made history when he became the most expensive IPL player in history for a brief period. Having won the ICC Test Championship and the ICC ODI World Cup last year, it was likely that the Aussie captain would be going for big bucks at the mega auction scheduled in Dubai late last year. Teams including SRH and the Royal Challengers Bangalore were the primary contenders that were looking to secure the services of the star pacer. After a long bidding war, SRH were able to fend off RCB to acquire Pat Cummins for a fee of Rs 20.5 crores. The staggering amount was later surpassed in another bidding war that saw Kolkata Knight Riders sign Cummins’ bowling compatriot Mitchell Starc for a record fee of Rs 24.75 crore.

Pat Cummins has played a total of six seasons in the IPL so far. He made his IPL debut with KKR in 2014. He appeared only once that season but still got his hands on the trophy under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir. Cummins bowled only four overs in his first season, taking just a single wicket. His first major performance in the tournament came in 2017 where he scalped 15 wickets in 12 games. In his career, Cummins has played a total of 42 IPL games while scoring 379 runs and scalping 45 wickets.

SRH will be playing their tournament opener against KKR in the 17th edition of IPL. The match will take place this Saturday, March 23, at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. SRH last played the tournament’s final in 2018 losing to CSK whereas KKR competed in a final in 2021, also losing to the MS Dhoni-led side. Given the new captaincy change, SRH will likely see some internal changes in terms of their approach towards the game. What remains to be seen is if those changes bring the desired results for the squad.
