Three days out from the first Test between India and New Zealand in Bengaluru, right-arm fast bowler Prasidh Krishna is under a fresh fitness concern after not taking the field on the third day of Karnataka’s ongoing Ranji Trophy fixture against Madhya Pradesh in Indore. Krishna had recently returned to competitive cricket after a long injury layoff.
The 28-year-old has been named among the India reserves for the upcoming three-match Test series with New Zealand starting October 16 in Bengaluru. He was out for a period of eight months due to a quadriceps injury which he picked up during a Ranji Trophy match in January this year.
According to a report in Sporstar, Krishna suffered discomfort while running during the opening day of the Elite Group C fixture currently underway at the Holkar Stadium. The report further adds that besides Krishna, other Karnataka players also struggled due to the outfield being soaked after rain that forced play on Day 2 to be abandoned.
Krishna made his return with the Duleep Trophy 2024 where he represented India A. In two matches, he took four wickets while sending down 53.5 overs. He was also part of the Rest of India squad that took on defending Ranji champions Mumbai in the Irani Trophy.
The BCCI recently announced a 15-man squad for the New Zealand Tests with Yash Dayal being the only omission from the Bangladesh series which India won 2-0. Additionally, Harshit Rana, Mayank Yadav, Krishna and Nitish Reddy were named among the traveling reserves.
Krishna was part of India’s Test squad for the South Africa tour where he played both the Tests and took two wickets in them. The series ended 1-1.
India’s squad for NZ Tests: Rohit Sharma (captain), Jasprit Bumrah (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep
