Indian Premier League side Delhi Capitals have signed Afghanistan all-rounder Gulbadin Naib as a replacement for the injured Australian Mitchell Marsh for the remainder of the 2024 edition of the cash-rich T20 franchise league.

The Afghan all-rounder, who has represented Afghanistan in 82 ODIs and 65 T20Is, penned the contract with the capital city side for his reserve price of INR 50 lakhs.

The side from the national capitals are placed sixth in the table with 8 points from 9 games, thanks to their four winning outings this season and are very much in contention for a playoff spot.

DC were off to a horrid start to the season as they lost two games on the trot against Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals, before earning a statement win against defending champions Chennai Super Kings at Vizag for their first win of the season.

The Rishabh Pant-led side slumped to two more losses against Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians, before posting a win over the Lucknow Super Giants.

Delhi picked up another win against Gujarat Titans, before succumbing to the might of the swashbuckling Sunrisers Hyderabad, before doing the double over GT on Wednesday as Pant starred with an unbeaten 88-run knock to lift his side up the table.

The capital city unit have five games left to play in the group phase of the tournament as they are slated to take on MI, RR and LSG at their home ground, Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, while are also scheduled to visit the Eden Gardens to take on KKR and travel to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium to face off against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
