IPL 2024: Sunrisers Hyderabad Captain Pat Cummins Says 'Good Game of Cricket... We Didn’t Quite Click'
Pat Cummins said Sunrisers Hyderabad did not have enough runs on the board after losing to Gujarat Titans by seven wickets.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins accepted that his team were short on runs as Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans (GT) won by 7 wickets in their Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

“Good game of cricket, was tight in the end, probably we needed 10-15 more runs,” SRH Pat Cummins captain said after the match.

After posting the record total in their previous match, Mohit Sharma straight-jacketed the batters in death overs after Afghan spin twins Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad had tightened the noose in the middle overs to restrict Sunrisers Hyderabad to a modest 162/8 from their 20 overs.

“I think they bowled well, just losing a couple of wickets, didn’t have that one person who kicked on to get a fifty, that happens,” Cummins added.

In fact, most of the SRH batters got starts but failed to convert them into big scores. Heinrich Klaasen blasted 24 off 13 balls before missing a straighter one from leg-spinner Rashid Khan to be bowled at a crucial juncture. Abhishek Sharma got 29 in 20 balls. Abdul Samad (29 off 14 balls) struck a few useful boundaries to prop up SRH, having gone after the GT bowlers from the outset.

GT completed their chase of 163 with five balls remaining. Sai Sudharsan top-scored with 45, while David Miller and Shubman Gill chipped in with knocks of 44 and 36 respectively.

Cummins when asked if the pitch was different, said: “Today it was, we thought the wicket was going to get a bit slow, the off-cutters did grip, we had 8 bowling options in our side. I thought the wicket played the same in both innings.”

“It’s T20 cricket isn’t it? Had a fantastic couple of games with the bat, today we didn’t quite click,” he added.
