Shubman Gill peeled off a fourth hundred of his career during the second day’s play of the fifth Test between India and England in Dharamsala. During his strokeful innings of 110, Gill played a plenty of gorgeous shots but his six off James Anderson will arguably go down as the short of the series.
Gill came down the pitch and almost instinctively lifted the full delivery from Anderson over the bowler’s head for a majestic six to the delight of Indian fans present at the HPCA Stadium on Friday morning.
Interestingly, later on, a stung Anderson exchanged a few words with the Gill and went on to dismiss him for the sixth time in his career.

During a chat with broadcasters Murali Kartik and Sanjay Manjrekar after the end of the day’s play, Gill was asked about his chat with Anderson who is now just one wicket away from completing 700 wickets in Test cricket.
“I think it would be better for both of us to keep that chat between us,” a smiling Gill responded to which Manjrekar said, “very good answer”.
Talking about his that six off Anderson, Gill said his only aim was to put the England star under some pressure. “I thought the ball wasn’t doing much at that time and instinctively I wanted to go over the top and put some pressure on him,” he said.
Gill’s father Lakhwinder was also present at the venue. And the youngster hopes his innings would have made him proud.
“It was my first time that he’s watching me play (for India). It was his vision and I’m hoping that he is proud of my effort today,” Gill said.
Gill fell to Anderson with the latter cleaning him up with a peach.
“I feel good every time I go out to bat and today I missed out on that ball (on which he was dismissed). I didn’t sight that ball properly, but I do feel good every time I go out to bat and hopefully I convert these starts into a big one,” he said.
