Overall, he’s the fourth ever Indian bowler after Bishan Singh Bedi, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin to have been ranked no.1 in red-ball cricket.

Bumrah shared a story in Instagram hours after the announcement.

Bumrah was intrinsic in India’s win in the 2nd Test against England that helped them draw level at one-all in the series. For his sensational performance, he was chosen as player-of-the-match.

Meanwhile, it’s been reported that India may rest Bumrah from the third Test in Rajkot that is slated to begin from February 15. The team management wants him to stay fresh for the final two Tests of the five-match series after he sent down 33.1 overs across the two innings in Vizag.

Bumrah’s performance in the 2nd Test drew widespread appreciation including from former South Africa star Vernon Philander.

“Bumrah is the (most) complete bowler at the moment. He has got magnificent skills and he has also learnt the trade of holding a line and length and that is the reason behind his success at the Test level,” Philander told PTI.

“Initially, he wanted to bowl wicket-taking deliveries all the time and leaked runs but now he has learnt consistency,” he added.

In 34 Tests so far, Bumrah has taken 155 wickets at 20.19 including 10 five-wicket hauls and is widely considered as one of the finest fast bowlers to have played for India.
