It was a crushing defeat for the Mumbai Indians as they fell victim to the Kolkata Knight Riders by 24 runs at the Wankhede Stadium to break the 12-year-long streak where MI was undefeated at their home ground against the two-time champions.
Leading the five-time championship-winning team, Hardik Pandya was critical of the side’s batting unit which was unable to keep calm under pressure. The home side lost their top-3 batters within the powerplay which put the visitors back in the game.
“Obviously in the batting inning, we couldn’t form partnerships and kept losing wickets, in T20s if you don’t form partnerships, it will cost you,” said Pandya at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Reflecting on the defeat Pandya did not have much else to say as the side are now ninth on the points table with their chances of a top-4 spot well and truly over.
“Not much, there are a lot of questions that will take some time to answer but for now, not much to say,” said the MI skipper.

But he was reflecting on the positives, especially the bowling unit which put in one of their best performances as a unit. Nuwan Thushara led from the front with three wickets in the powerplay while Jasprit Bumrah took three which came in at the death. Piyush Chawla also took a wicket while the skipper took two.
“As you mentioned, the bowlers did a fantastic job, the wicket got a little better after the first innings, and the dew came on,” said Hardik.
“We will go through the game and see what could we have done better,” added Pandya
However, as he concluded, he gave fighting words that MI hope won’t go to waste as they have three more games to the season which they plan to finish off on a positive note.

“You keep fighting, that is what I tell myself, never leave the battlefield, tough days come but good also come here, it’s challenging but challenges make you better,” concluded the MI captain.
