MI vs DC, Preview: Winless Mumbai Indians Takes on Delhi Capitals in The Bottom of Table Clash at Wankhede
Ishan Kishan looked in good touch during training ahead of MI's upcoming game against DC at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Mumbai Indians will be looking to register their first win of the season as they take on Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The home team is coming from back-to-back three defeats, including one home game against Rajasthan Royals.

Delhi on the other hand has had an almost similar fate so far. They have just managed to win one match out of their four.

Both the teams had an extensive net session on the eve of the match. If net sessions are anything to go by, Ishan Kishan might score a hundred in the game because he looked in sublime form within the enclosed space. With Rohit Sharma standing right in front of his nets, Ishan showed a great display of six-hitting.

Ishan would have easily smashed 20+ sixes in the nets sessions with at least 16 of them going into the second or the third stands. Some shots were so special that Rohit had no option but to applaud. In the adjacent nets was Afghanistan’s Mohammed Nabi, who also delivered some long ones into the stands.

Rohit Sharma did some running drills across the boundary rope along with the MI trainer before going back to the dressing room. In the corner of the first net, coach Kieron Pollard and India legend Sachin Tendulkar were seen in an animated discussion.

From Delhi’s side, DC skipper Rishabh Pant was the first one to bat in the nets today and he looked in great form, which his recent scores tell us quite evidently. Ishant Sharma bowled a long spell in the nets too.

It is a day game and the Mumbai heat would be a huge challenge for the players. Hopefully, the evening breeze will be the saviour for both teams.

MI Team News

Mumbai is coming from three back-to-back defeats this season. Both their batting and bowling have fallen short in different situations. They are at the bottom of the table and are desperately looking for a ladder (a win) to climb up.

The home team needs their senior pros to stand and deliver for them. There have been some good batting performances in phases for the men in blue of the IPL. Rohit Sharma in the first game against Gujarat Titans, Tilak Varma in the second game against SRH and Hardik Pandya in their third game against Rajasthan are some of the standout performances from the MI side this year.

The good news for Mumbai is that their start batter and world’s number one ranked T20 batter, Suryakumar Yadav is fit and available for selection. This will give them a much-needed boost in the middle order. The home team felt SKY’s absence in the first three games and they would be banking on Surya to deliver.

DC Team News

Delhi Capitals are just one step above Mumbai Indians on the table, sitting at the ninth position with just two points to their name. The biggest cause of worry is the kind of defeat that they are coming from in their last game.

Delhi played Kolkata Knight Riders last, where they conceded a mammoth 272 runs in the first innings and ended up losing the match by a big margin of 106 runs. A defeat this big can have an impact on the team’s subsequent performances too. Mumbai has the batting power to repeat what KKR did to Delhi and the visiting team would be aware of it.

The good news for DC is their skipper’s form. Rishabh Pant is coming from two back-to-back fifties. In the four matches he has played so far, he has accumulated 152 runs including two fifties, at a strike rate 158.3.

A big cause of worry for the visiting team is their lead spinner Kuldeep Yadav’s injury, who is having a groin niggle. On the eve of the match, Director of Cricket for Delhi Capitals, Sourav Ganguly said that Kuldeep will undergo a fitness test before the match and the result of that test will determine his availability for the game at Wankhede.

MI VS DC Pitch Report

Wankhede has always been a batting paradise where a lot of huge totals are scored and also chased quite easily at times. The short boundaries all around also make sure that we get to see a lot of boundaries being scored throughout the 40 overs. In 110 IPL games at this venue, teams batting first have won 50 times, while chasing teams have won 60 times. With both the batting line-ups filled with big power hitters, we might yet again see a run-fest at the iconic Wankhede stadium.
