Mixed Bag for IPL Stars, Fresh Faces Continue to Surge in DPL 2024
Former India U-19 captain Yash Dhull failed to fire for the Central Delhi Kings in the second match, and his side succumbed to a seven-wicket defeat against the North Delhi Strikers.

The third game of the inaugural Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2024 saw yet another renowned cricketer from the national capital biting the dust while a couple of youngsters grabbing the opportunity and making it count. The Yash Dhull-led Central Delhi Kings succumbed to a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Priyanshu Vijayran’s North Delhi Strikers. The Under-19 World Cup winning captain had a poor outing at his home ground, adding to his long string of underwhelming performances.

On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders’ find of 2023 and North Delhi’s Suyash Sharma was a little expensive yet affective with his leg-spin, that too, on wicket that suited the batters despite being used for the straight third day in the tournament. Apart from these known faces, there were two batters from each team who made the contest interesting.

Let’s have a look at the talking points of the DPL 2024 Match No. 3 Central Delhi Kings vs North Delhi Strikers

Yash Dhull falters again

The star Delhi batter seems to be still finding his rhythm in the shortest format of the game. The top-scorer of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 hasn’t been in his best form in the past couple of years in T20s. Drafted as a marquee player in the Delhi Premier League, Dhull has played two innings but yet to create an impact so far. He tried getting into the groove with 3 quick boundaries in Central Delhi’s opening game on Sunday but his innings didn’t last longer. He could muster 13 off 5 as his team was bundled out for 61 in a rain-curtailed 10-overs aside game.

The following day, Dhull again found himself in a tricky spot while facing Manan Bhardwaj of North Delhi. The Central Delhi skipper looked to clear the long-off fence but holed it to Vaibhav Kandpal at a score of 11 off just 16. Notably, Dhull & Co are yet to win a game in the ongoing tournament.

Consistent Suyash Sharma

The leg spinner was among wickets as his team registered the first win in the ongoing Delhi Premier League. Sharma removed Dhull in the Powerplay and then returned to clean up set batter Jonty Sidhu for 42 off 28 balls. Sharma was pick of the bowlers, returning 2/35 in 4 overs. So far, he has 3 wickets in the tournament.

Dhruv Kaushik’s maiden fifty

Dhruv Kaushik was the top scorer for East Delhi as they posted 175/5 in 20 overs. Playing his first game in the tournament, the opener smashed 63 runs off 34 deliveries with the help of 4 sixes and as many boundaries.

“The plan was to keep things simple and not to try anything extraordinary. I just wanted to play the ball to its merit. It was a great batting wicket but our bowlers didn’t put up a disciplined performance,” Kaushik said after the game.

Batting at a strike rate of 185, Kaushik also featured in a 59-run stand with Jonty Sidhu for the third wicket, pushing East Delhi towards a challenging total.

“He helped me a lot throughout our partnership. He kept talking to me and helped me calm myself,” Kaushik told about his partnership with Sidhu.

Yash Dabas – the show stopper

North Delhi showcased an exemplary batting show while chasing 176. Vice-captain Vaibhav Kandpal smashed a 35-ball 60 and stitched an 81-run partnership off just 51 balls with Yash Dabas who was adjudged the Player of the Match.

Batting at No. 3, Dabas fired 4 sixes and as many boundaries in his 56-run knock off just 33 balls. Speaking after the game, Dabas said he was little nervous in the beginning of his inning but once he began connecting the ball, he didn’t hesitate playing his shots.

“I was nervous in the beginning. But once I started connecting the ball, I got my nerves back and played my shots with positive intent. Even if I got to the ball or not am going was hit it. The ball was coming okay but due to the dew factor, the ball was coming a bit skiddy it was okay and I am happy with my performance,” he said.
