Despite having a great track record as a captain, it was not their night as Pat Cummins’ SRH were outclassed by a dominant performance at the hands of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the final of the Indian Premier League 2024.
SRH’s batting which has grown to have a reputation for being explosive, was unable to get going thanks to the powerplay spell by Mitchell Starc which helped KKR set the tone and restrict the Sunrisers to just 113 with 9 balls to spare in the first innings.
Without a decent score on the board, it was smooth sailing for KKR as they marched on to their third title as they secured the win by 8 wickets.

Speaking at the post-match presentations, the SRH skipper gave due credit to the opposition for their dominant performance on the field. He revealed that they had tried to get some momentum in their favour but it did not turn out that way.
“They bowled fantastically. Old mate Starcy turned up again! Not enough tonight, totally outplayed. You hope you get some boundaries away but they bowled fantastically well and didn’t give us anything. Similar to how they bowled in Ahmedabad”.
Speaking on the conditions, Cummins reckoned that his side was about 40-50 runs short of a defendable score considering the track they were presented.
“It was a tricky wicket. If we got 160, we felt we would have been in the game”.

Reflecting on what has been a fantastic season for the Hyderabad unit, Cummins pointed out their explosive brand of batting which he praised and appreciated it as something that is not exactly as easy as it looks.
“So many (positives), the style with which the guys played especially with the bat. A lot of skills to get to 250 three times. I loved how brave the guys were. It was a lot of fun and a great season,” he concluded.
