Kolkata Knight Riders’ Nitish Rana has shared how Rishabh Pant pulled him out of misery during a difficult phase. Nearly a month after winning the IPL with the Kolkata Knight Riders, Rana touched upon various topics before discussing his friendship with the Delhi Capitals skipper during an interview with podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia on his YouTube channel BeerBiceps. “There was this one phase in my life where I was selected for the tour of Sri Lanka. It was a pretty bad series for me. There was only one guy [Rishabh Pant] in the cricket circle who called me after that. We talked for like 18 minutes and that call revived me once again", Rana revealed.

Speaking further in the podcast, Nitish Rana recalled how he never thought the Sri Lanka series would be so bad for him. “When I went there [Sri Lanka] I felt that…I never thought this would happen. I felt like it would have been better if I was never selected for that stage."
Nitish Rana even revealed what Rishabh Pant said during the phone call. “During those 18 minutes, he [Rishabh Pant] told me, ‘Since you picked up bat for the first time during your childhood it was your dream to wear this [India’s] jersey. And you have done it. Failed or not, you know what you did, but from here how you see your life is very important. If you want to sink to the bottom or climb upwards, it’s in your hands. I won’t tell you that, nor will I speak about this again," Rana recalled.
Nitish Rana made his ODI and T20I debuts during India’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2021. It is also the last international series that the cricketer was called up for. While Rana’s career with India did not have the best of starts, he quickly rose to success in the IPL. He was a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders’ historic campaign this year where they beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final to seal their third crown.
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant is currently representing India at the T20 World Cup 2024. Pant played a fine knock of 36 during India’s Super Eight fixture against Afghanistan. India will take on Australia at the Super Eight stage of the competition today.
