'Past, Present And Future' Of Indian Cricket In One Frame
India’s 1983 World Cup-winning squad’s members and the current players celebrated the 41st anniversary of the country's maiden World Cup triumph in jubilant fashion.

The Indian cricket team celebrated the 41st anniversary of their maiden World Cup triumph on Monday. Team India, under the leadership of Kapil Dev, got the better of the mighty West Indies on June 25 to claim the prestigious World Cup trophy in 1983. The iconic 1983 World Cup final match between India and West Indies took place at the Lord’s in London. India’s 1983 World Cup-winning squad’s members and the current players marked the occasion in jubilant fashion.

Former cricketers like, Sunil Gavaskar, and Ravi Shastri were present at the celebration. The current president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and ex-cricketer Roger Binny, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and members of the current squad like Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Siraj also took part in the exuberant celebration.

The official handle of the International Cricket Council (ICC) also shared a couple of pictures of the celebration on social media. “Past, present and future of Indian cricket celebrating the 41st anniversary of 1983 World Cup win,” read the post shared by the ICC.

Reacting to ICC’s post, one social media user commented, “What a colourful Frame.”

“It was truly an amazing win for India. The country which was trying to be on feet. An India winning it when nobody was expecting was truly remarkable. Among the all sports achievements, this is the biggest of all. Team India,” read another response.

To mark this remarkable feat, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah also came up with a congratulatory post on X (formerly Twitter). “Reflecting on 41 years since India’s historic first World Cup victory under Kapil Dev’s leadership in 1983. A defining moment for Indian cricket that continues to inspire us all,” read the post.

The BCCI called it a “landmark moment” for Indian cricket. “On this day in 1983! A historic victory & a landmark moment for Indian cricket. Team India led by Kapil Dev, were crowned champions for the very first time as they clinched the World Cup title,” BCCI posted.

Batting first, India had reached a total of 183 against West Indies in the 1983 World Cup final. Andy Roberts picked up three wickets for the Caribbean side in that game. India came up with a spirited bowling to bowl out West Indies for 140. Mohinder Amarnath and Madan Lal bagged three wickets for India in the final. Amarnath was also adjudged Player of the Match in the final for his terrific all-round prowess.

India are currently taking part in the T20 World Cup. The Rohit Sharma-led side has qualified for the semi-final of the competition. In their next match, India will be up against reigning champions England in the semi-final on Thursday, June 27.
