Ruturaj Gaikwad scored one boundary following which he retired hurt and was subsequently replaced by Rajat Patidar in the middle.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, skipper of the India C team in the Duleep Trophy 2024 has walked off the field during Day 1 of their second match against India B at Anantapur on Thursday.

Gaikwad came in to open the batting along with Sai Sudharshan after the India B skipper, Abhimanyu Easwaran chose to field first after winning the toss. He walked off the ground after facing just two balls where he struck his only boundary in the innings.

A report by Sportstar, claims that Gaikwad had reportedly twisted his ankle while taking a single in his second delivery which resulted in his injury.

India C will hope that the injury will not rule him out of action for long as they would be reliant on his leadership qualities along with his batting skills should they go on and possibly win the contest.

India C and India B are playing their second fixture in the Duleep Trophy 2024 after winning their respective opening games earlier.

India C has opted to bring in the likes of Ishan Kishan, Mayank Markande and Sandeep Warrier into their playing 11. They came in place of Aryan Juyal, Hrithik Shokeen and Himanshu Chauhan respectively.

Gaikwad’s loss would be a big blow considering that he was in good touch scoring a 48-ball 46 against India B in the second innings of the opening game against India D.

The 27-year-old has been a mainstay for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League at the top of the order and has also been entrusted with captaincy duties succeeding the legendary MS Dhoni.

He has also been part of the national team setup where he featured in 6 ODIs and 23 T20Is in total. In the shortest format, he averages 39.56 with a strike rate of 143.54. This includes four half-centuries and the singular ton in which he scored an unbeaten 123 against Australia in Guwahati, Assam in November 2023.

Even CSK would be hopeful that they would not lose their captain and lead batter for an extended period as they look to plan ahead for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega-auction which would prove to be a chance for franchises to rebuild and improve on their squads.
