Being one of the most popular sporting figures globally, Sachin Tendulkar was recognised as a ‘national icon’ by the Election Commission. The cricketer was requested to help in raising voter awareness in the electoral process. Having cast his vote, this is what Sachin had to say as per several media outlets – “I was involved in many initiatives for raising awareness and the importance of casting a vote. Problems happen because of two reasons, one is when you act without thinking and second is when you keep thinking and don’t act. I would like to urge everyone to come and cast their vote”.
As per a report published by news agency ANI, Sachin Tendulkar’s wife Anjali Tendulkar and daughter Sara Tendulkar could not make it to Mumbai for the elections because of the latter’s post-graduation. Sachin, however, ensured that he cast his vote after which he walked in front of the crowd outside while showing his inked finger.
Other notable cricketers, including Suryakumar Yadav and Ajikya Rahane, also exercised their voting rights today. The Mumbai Indians star shared a picture of himself on X where he can be seen raising his inked finger. He also urged the citizens to participate in the democratic process to help shape the future of India. “Let’s shape the future of our nation by casting our vote today”, Suryakumar wrote in his post. Similarly, Rahane cast his vote along with his wife Radhika Dhopavkar in Mumbai today. He also shared a picture while writing, “We did our duty. Have you?”.
