Sanju Samson Blasts Second-fastest T20I Century by an Indian
Sanju Samson now has scored the second fastest century by an Indian in T20Is, only behind Rohit Sharma.

Revenge is a dish best served cold. In the case of Sanju Samson, it is one that is served piping hot within the blink of an eye as the wicketkeeper-batter reintroduced himself with a sensational historic century against Bangladesh in the final T20I at Hyderabad on Saturday.

Samson, who has been in the hotseat lately for his inconsistency with the bat and his underwhelming innings so far in the series, came out with a vengeance against the visitors today.

After losing opener Abhishek Sharma early for just 4 runs, Samson and skipper Suryakumar Yadav took the responsibility up on themselves to get India off to an absolute firecracker of a recovery.

The duo attacked the Bangladesh bowlers at will, smacking everyone for fours and sixes at will, as India put up a record-high 82/1 in the powerplay, their best in T20Is.

Samson himself, unleashed a flurry of half volley, and pulls of his own, punishing the bowlers at will for boundaries galore.

And with the 22nd ball of his innings, Samson walloped one straight over long-off, clearing the boundary for a six, to reach his fifty, after which he broke into a spirited celebration.

Sanju Samson now has the fastest T20I fifty for India against Bangladesh – off 22 balls – one better than Rohit Sharma, who’d got there in 23 balls in Rajkot in 2019.

Samson’s fiery innings also marked the highest score an Indian has registered against Bangladesh in T20Is.

Samson was nowhere near done though, as he piled on five walloping sixes in a row in the 10th over against Rishad Hossein, taking his total to 92.

Then as expected, Samson reached the peak, reaching his century on his 40th delivery, clobbering Hasan for a four.

Fastest T20I Hundred by an Indian Batter

  1. Rohit Sharma – 35 balls vs Sri Lanka in December 2017 at Indore
  2. Sanju Samson –  40 balls vs Bangladesh in October 2024 in Hyderabad
  3. Suryakumar Yadav – 45 balls vs Sri Lanka in January 2023 at Rajkot
  4. KL Rahul – 46 balls vs West Indies in August 2016 at Lauderhill
  5. Abhishek Sharma – 46 balls – vs Zimbabwe in July 2024 at Harare
  6. Suryakumar Yadav – 48 balls – vs England in July 2022 at Nottingham

India is nowhere near done with their onslaught, as Samson and Surya both continue to wreak havoc over the Bangaldesh bowling.

Samson’s stellar outing finally came to an end as Mustafizur got the better of the batter with a slower delivery, to get him to flight one straight into the hands of Mahedi Hasan.

Hence, the Keralite’s onslaught came to an end at 111 runs, an innings peppered with 11 fours and 8 sixes.
