Dhawan, who made his international debut in October 2010, played 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20Is for India. He scored 10867 runs across formats including 24 centuries and 55 half-centuries.

“I am at a point when I look back and only see good memories and a new world when I look ahead,” Dhawan said in the video.

“My only dream was to play for India and it became a reality. For that, I’m thankful to a lot of people. My family, childhood coach Tarak Sinha, Madan Sharma under whom I learned my cricket. Then my team with which I played for many years, I found a family, made my name and shown a lot of love by everyone,” he added.

Dhawan said it’s imperative for him to draw curtains on his playing career to start a new chapter of his life.

“As they say, you have to turn pages to progress forward in a story and I am going to do just that. I’m announcing my retirement from international and domestic cricket,” he said.

Dhawan thanked BCCI, Delhi and District Cricket Association and his fans for being there through his cricket journey.

“As I say farewell to my cricket journey, I am content that I was able to play for my country. I am really thankful to BCCI, DDCA for giving me the opportunities and fans for their love,” the former India opener said.

“All I can say to myself is that ‘don’t be sad that you won’t get to play your country again but be happy that you did play for tour country which is my biggest achievement that I played,” he concluded.
