Misfire with the bat, but a bit of magic with the ball. Chennai Super Kings’ Shivam Dube showcased the other side of his all-round ability for the first time this IPL season, as he scalped the wicket of Punjab Kings’ Jonny Bairstow.
PBKS started off shakily as opener Prabhsimran Singh fell victim to debutant Richard Gleeson.
But, Bairstow and Riley Rossouw then took complete control, whacking away at a depleted CSK bowling order, hampered by the injury of Deepak Chahar as well in the first over, at will.

Out of options, skipper Gaikwad tossed the ball to Dube to give him a chance to roll his arms over with the ball for the first time in the IPL this season.
And Dube delivered instantly scalping the dangerous Jonny Bairstow with a fabulous delivery that caught the edge of the Englishman’s bat and was caught by MS Dhoni behind the stumps.

Dube’s outing with the bat today though started off rather disappointing as the southpaw was undone for a 2-ball duck off Harpreet Brar. His poor performance today came off the back of his announcement into India’s 2024 T20 World Cup squad just yesterday.
Dube had been knocking at the door of the national squad for a prolonged period. He was exceptional in the last season of the IPL where CSK claimed their fifth title, where he played an impactful knock in the final against Gujarat Titans. The Southpaw came in to bat at No. 3 and scored an unbeaten 35, which comprised two sixes.
He has also been one of CSK’s most reliable batters this season so far, playing a perfect hard-hitting second fiddle to skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who himself has been in blazing form so far claiming the Orange Cap with his fifty today.
Dube has represented India in 21 T20Is in his career so far. He has registered 276 runs while picking eight wickets.
