Wanindu Hasaranga Becomes Fastest Sri Lankan to 100 T20I Wickets, Surpasses Lasith Malinga
Wanindu Hasaranga set a new record for the fastest Sri Lankan to reach 100 T20I wickets, going past Lasith Malinga.

The skipper of the Sri Lankan side, Wanindu Hasaranga, has managed to etch his name in Sri Lankan history once again as he went past their legendary pacer, Lasith Malinga to set a new record in the shortest format.

Hasaranga has come a long way since his debut. Now leading the side in the T20I format, he has stepped up his performances. He managed to take two wickets in the second game against Afghanistan which made him the fastest Sri Lankan bowler to surpass 100 T20I wickets and the second Sri Lankan to the milestone. He managed to reach the milestone in just 63 matches going past Lasith Malinga who had done the same in 76 matches.

He also now becomes the second fastest to the milestone in T20I history as well only behind the Afghanistan leggie, Rashid Khan who is currently out injured. Hasaranga has already made a strong comeback since his injury which led to him missing the 50-over World Cup in 2023.

The leg-spinner now becomes the eleventh player in the history of the T20I format to go past 100 wickets. The 26-year-old however, has a long career ahead of him and will look to continue his good form with the T20 World Cup coming up soon.

Hasaranga has been an all-round performer especially when playing in the Lanka Premier League. Captaining the B-Love Kandy side, he finished the tournament as the highest run-scorer with 279 runs in 9 innings and as the highest wicket-taker as well with 19 wickets in 10 innings, marking an all-round dominance.

In the ongoing T20I series against Afghanistan, the skipper has put in some decent performances especially a crucial 67 off 32 deliveries to help his side with the bat.

Sri Lanka will continue to bank on Hasaranga to perform with both bat and ball with the World Cup in mind as the side will aim to fight and bring back their second T20 World Cup.

The Lankans will play against Afghanistan for the final match of the three-match T20I series as the hosts will look to whitewash the Afghans as they did in the previous few games.
