MS Dhoni aka Thala is gearing up for the upcoming IPL that starts with a blockbuster clash between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni is set to make his on-field return next week when the 17th season of the Indian Premier League will get underway. With Dhoni set to turn 43 in July this year, speculations are rife if the upcoming IPL could be his last as a player.

Dhoni-led CSK won their fifth IPL title last year when they dethroned Gujarat Titans in an epic finale held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With that, CSK also drew level with Mumbai Indians on the most titles win list.

CSK have been sharing glimpses of their pre-season camp in Chennai and their latest clip featuring Dhoni has become an instant hit on Instagram.

The clip shows a a fully fit Dhoni running during a training session at Chepauk gearing up for his return to action on March 22 when CSK host Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Dhoni played the IPL 2023 with an injured knee which limited his mobility and he was often seen limping. Immediately after the season ended, he underwent a surgery in Mumbai to address the concern.

However, Robin Uthappa, a former teammate of Dhoni at CSK, feels that the legendary captain’s knees are getting worn out and it might impact his wicketkeeping.

“CSK would let him play even if he was on a wheelchair!” Uthappa said on JioCinema. “Get off from the wheelchair, bat, and then go back. But I don’t think the batting is the issue for him, I don’t think batting will ever be an issue for him. I think it’s the wicketkeeping. The knees are getting worn out and he loves keeping. So, because he won’t be able to stand there and add value, he’ll probably move on from the game than for any other reason.”

CSK will be bidding for a record sixth IPL title this time around.
