Suryakumar Yadav hit the winning six which also helped him get to his second IPL century.

Mumbai Indians’ Suryakumar Yadav struck a sublime century to guide his side to an impressive win against Sunrisers Hyderabad in an IPL 2024 clash on Monday.

Playing at the Wankhede Stadium, Suryakumar produced a memorable knock of 102* as the SRH endured a seven-wicket defeat.

The top-order batter’s innings comprised 12 fours and six sixes. The India batter, quite fittingly, also struck the match-winning stroke in the 18th over.

Facing SRH pacer T Natarajan, Suryakumar hit a six over the long-off boundary. The majestic shot not only ensured a victory for the five-time champions it also helped the star batter breach the triple-digit mark.

Suryakumar recorded his ton facing 51 balls to win the Player of The Match award.

“I won’t be lying but my heart was beating fast. I never felt that I would be batting so early on in the innings. Everything’s uncertain in this game so I was prepared. I know a couple of deliveries will seam away. I had no clue initially but since I survived, I thought to settle down in the first three overs and then if I get the ball in my zone, I will play my shots,” Suryakumar said.

“I always have this in my mind how will I bat when the scoreboard reads 0 for 2. So, I prepare myself in that way. So that’s what I do in the nets and apply the same in the game as well. Because I know if I finish my nets happily, then I will definitely do well in the game. If not in a couple of games but will definitely play well in the following matches,” he added.

Suryakumar and Tilak Varma started the fightback, registering a solid partnership. While Suryakumar went on to score a century, Varma notched up a vital knock of 37 not out off 32 balls.
