There is no bigger occasion than a World Cup in the cricketing world. And big occasions call for the biggest of names. So, there was no doubt when India called up talisman batter Virat Kohli up for the upcoming T20 World Cup, set to take place in the United States and the Caribbean from June.
But, a major point of concern for fans and onlookers alike has been the seemingly lower strike rate of Kohli in the shorter format, in a time when T20s call for explosive impact from the get go.

Well, BCCI Chairman Ajit Agarkar remains unfazed by the claims, stating that Kohli’s strike rate has been cause for no concern, and that it is the experience that matters when facing off against premier teams in the biggest of stages.
“We have not been discussing his strike-rate. There’s difference between IPL and international cricket. You need experience. We have got enough balance and power in the team. You look and try take positives from what is happening in IPL. The pressure of a World Cup game is different,” stated Ajit Agarkar.
And well, there can be no doubting the ‘King’ Kohli when it comes to taking on the pressure at the most pivotal of moments.
Kohli’s expertise to thrive in the biggest of stages has been well-documented. The talisman batter notched up a historic campaign in the ODI World Cup last year, ending his campaign with a mammoth 765 runs in 11 innings, at a stellar average of 95.62, setting the record of the highest run tally in a single ODI World Cup edition.
His exploits for India in the shorter formats cannot be understated as well. In India’s unsuccessful campaign at the 2022 T20 World Cup, it was indeed Kohli who once again shone the brightest, scoring a blistering 296 runs in 6 innings at yet another staggering average of 98.67 runs.
And his recent form in the IPL speaks for itself as well. Despite RCB’s never-ending struggle to move up the table, Kohli has been nothing short of sensational with the bat, having registered 500 runs in just 10 innings, at an average of 71.63 and a strike rate of 147.79, as he lies just 9 runs behind CSK’s Ruturaj Gaikwad for the Orange Cap.
