The education department of Bihar is preparing for the third phase of a teacher recruitment drive. The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) is expected to release an advertisement for the third phase of the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE) in February 2024. Given the past phases of recruitment, it is anticipated that the upcoming phase will offer 70,000 teaching positions across the state. It will include the positions which were left vacant in the previous two phases.
Considering the previous two phases of recruitment, the upcoming BPSC TRE 3.0 will be appointing eligible teachers at different educational levels. It will include classes 1 to 5, classes 6 to 8, classes 9 to 10 and classes 11 and 12. As confirmed by the Bihar Education Department, the preparations for the examination are already in progress.
The BPSC TRE phase 2 examination was conducted between December 7 and December 15. The results were announced by the administration of the department on December 22, 2023. The second phase examination then aimed to fill up to 1.22 lakh vacancies in Primary Teacher (PRT), Post Graduate Teacher (PGT), and Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) positions.
The appointment process has been made rigorous in the state as there has been a long-lasting challenge in the education system. One of the major challenges is the student-teacher ratio, which is expected to be rectified through appointing more teachers.
As per the Times of India reports, the student-teacher ratio in primary school has been recorded to be 1:35. On the other hand, the ratio in secondary schools has seen a significant improvement following the recruitment drive. It is currently at 1:36 after the second phase of recruitment which was previously at 1:88.
For the unversed, the BPSC TRE is an annual recruitment drive that is headed under the Bihar Public Service Commission. It aims to appoint teachers for state government- run schools at primary, secondary and higher educational levels.
Recently, the department also confirmed that the third phase examination which was scheduled in August this year has been postponed to March. Meanwhile, the final date of the examination is yet to be announced besides the vacancy advertisement.
