An order announcing the extension of the winter break in Delhi schools till January 10 was withdrawn by the government on Saturday, just hours after being issued. The Delhi Department of Education confirmed that the previous order was “incorrectly” issued.
Delhi Education Minister Atishi announced on the microblogging site “X” that the decision has been made to extend the winter break for students in Nursery through Class 5 by five days, until January 12. “Schools in Delhi will remain closed for the next 5 days due to the prevailing cold weather conditions, for students from Nursery to Class 5,” Atishi wrote in the post.

According to PTI, the revised directive states, ”The order extending winter break was incorrectly issued. The order has been withdrawn immediately.”
“Order No.DE.23(3)/Sch.Br./2024/18 dated: January 6, 2024, regarding the extension of Winter Vacation stands withdrawn with immediate effect,” the newly issued order read.
School students’ winter break was set to conclude on January 6, with classes resuming on January 8. However, Delhi has been experiencing intense cold waves, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert owing to dense fog, light rainfall, and a dip in temperature over the next several days.
The Delhi government in its previous order that now stands cancelled had extended the winter vacation to January 10 in all government-aided and unaided accredited private schools in the national capital territory (NCT) due to “extreme cold waves and IMD’s yellow alert.”
Meanwhile, due to the dense fog and chilly weather conditions, the Gautam Buddh Nagar government on Saturday ordered all schools in Noida and Greater Noida to close for classes up to 8th grade until January 14.
The directive, issued by district Basic Education Officer Rahul Panwar, applies to all institutions accredited by the state board, CBSE, ICSE, IB, as well as others.
The Rajasthan Board has ordered an extension of the winter vacation in light of the state’s harsh weather scenarios. Schools from classes 1 to 8 have been directed to remain closed until January 13, 2024, according to a statement published by the Board of Secondary Education, Ajmer. This winter break applies solely to students of the state’s schools. Teachers are required to be present at the school for departmental and teaching purposes.
