The results of UPSC Civil Services Exam 2023 have finally been released. Nearly, 1016 candidates have cleared the exam with flying colours. After passing the UPSC Civil Services Exam, candidates selected for IAS, IPS, and IFS will go to Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA). This course lasts for three weeks. Selected students for IPS will then undergo additional training at the Police Academy in Hyderabad.

IAS and IPS training

Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), IAS training lasts two years. On the other hand, IPS candidates start with a three-month foundation course at LBSNAA, then move on to 11 months of training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad. After this, they spend six months in practical training in their designated area, followed by a one-month Phase-2 training back at SVPNPA.

Appointment of IAS and IPS after training

IFS officers train for two years at the Foreign Service Institute, while IRS officers train for one year at the National Academy of Direct Taxes. After completing their IAS training at LBSNAA in Mussoorie, candidates become Assistant Collectors or SDMs in any district within their allocated area. Soon after finishing IPS training, individuals are appointed as DSPs.

Salary of IAS, IPS

Trainee IAS and IPS officers receive a stipend or salary of around Rs 40,000 per month. Their actual salary is Rs 56,000 monthly, but various deductions are made for expenses like mess and hostel fees. Both IAS and IPS officers start with the same salary. The maximum salary for an IAS officer can reach up to Rs 2,50,000 per month, while for IPS officers, it’s up to Rs 2,25,000. The highest salary depends on their seniority and rank.

The Civil Services Exam happens every year in three parts – preliminary, main, and interview – organised by the UPSC. It aims to choose officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and more.
