Aparshakti Khurana Lauds Vinesh Phogat, Answers If Dangal 2 Is Likely: 'Kamal Ki Script...' | Exclusive
Aparshakti Khurana lauds Vinesh Phogat for her attitude and determination, says she is a true winner.

Although Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from competing for the gold medal in wrestling at the Paris Olympics 2024, she became a national hero after making India proud with her relentless dedication towards her sport. Vinesh’s fans began to flood social media with ‘#Dangal2’ soon after she returned to India from Paris. The original Dangal featured the triumph of Vinesh’s cousins, Geeta and Babita Phogat. Aparshakti Khurana, who was a part of the original film, has now opened up about a possible sequel.

In an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, Aparshakti Khurana said, “If I’m not wrong, I played Vinesh’s character (in Dangal). They don’t have a brother. Behen hi thi, jo maine part play kiya tha. Geeta and Babita don’t have a brother. If I’m not wrong, I really played Vinesh Phogat in Dangal.”

Aparshakti shared that it is a matter of great pride that his film’s hashtag was associated with “such a big sportsperson and such a huge sporting event”. He added, “Hum kahaaniya tab banate hain jab yeh kahaaniya banate hain. Otherwise, stories and actors hote nahi hai. Hum toh kisi aur ko play kar rahe hain. Sanya aur Fatima nahi hoti agar Geeta aur Babita nahi hoti. Jab log real main kuch heroism karte hain, wahan se prerit hokar log kahaaniya likhte hain aur hum usko sirf enact karte hain. Real hero koi aur hai (We tell stories when they live them. We are playing someone else. Without Geeta and Babita, Sanya and Fatima would not have been who they were. We take inspiration from real heroes).”

“This ‘Dangal 2’ was very hard-hitting and engaging. Bohot hi kamal ki script likhi gayi. Bas ending hume thodi aur behtar lagti agar medal bhi saath main aata par hum usme Vinesh ko bilkul bhi nahi doshi thehra rahe hain (The script is amazing. The ending would have been better had we won a medal, but we are not blaming Vinesh).”

Aparshakti lauded the wrestler for her attitude and determination. “She’s a complete winner. I think Vinesh Phogat is among the toughest sportspersons we have come across. Bohot hi kamaal ka attitude hai. I think medal na laane ke bawajood humne unko jitna celebrate kiya hai, yeh humare desh ki bhi jeet hai. Humari audience ki bhi jeet hai. (The way we have celebrated her despite not winning the gold is also a win for our country). We look up to her,” he mentioned.

“Everybody was upset for her. This shouldn’t have happened. Of course, you wanted a medal for the nation but ultimately, you are getting what you wanted from people (love and respect). I feel she’s an out-and-out winner and she will always be the finest sportsperson of this generation irrespective of the fact that she did not get a medal,” the actor stated.

Meanwhile, Aparshakti Khurana is currently raking in praise for his recent release, Stree 2. The Amar Kaushik directorial film features Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi and Abhishek Banerjee in key roles. The film Stree 2 is proving to be a box office juggernaut, showing impressive numbers in its first week of release. The film has earned a staggering Rs 275.35 crore in just seven days.
