Sara Ali Khan-Ananya Panday's Cocktail 2 Not Happening? Director Homi Adajania Reveals | Exclusive
Released in 2012, Cocktail starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty in the lead.

About four years back, speculations were rife that Sara Ali Khan is being considered for a sequel to her father Saif Ali Khan’s film, Cocktail. It was reported that she would be slipping into the shoes of Deepika Padukone in the film. A while back, reports resurfaced that Cocktail 2 is in the making with Sara and Ananya Panday.

Speculations arose after both the actors were spotted outside Maddock Films’ office in Santacruz, Mumbai, the production house that had backed Cocktail co-starring Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty. Another report further claimed that Sara and Ananya are in advanced talks for the second installment in the franchise and that the makers are currently in the process of looking for a male actor.

And News18 Showsha now has an exclusive update on Cocktail 2. Seems like there’s no truth to the story as when we reached out to Cocktail director Homi Adajania, he laughed it off. He further stated, “I have no idea about that.” And with this, he seemingly slammed off the speculations surrounding the rom-com.

The rumours surrounding Cocktail 2 gave rise to a lot of chatter on social media. While some were excited about it and wanted Kartik Aaryan to join the women, others weren’t on keen on having a sequel to the 2012 film saying that the spiritual sequel to Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal starring Sara and Kartik turned out to be a box office and critical disappointment.

We’ve also learnt from a source that the director is currently busy on making a sequel to Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo. The first season of the Disney+ Hotstar original series was released last year. Starring Dimple Kapadia, Radhika Madan, Angira Dhar and Isha Talwar, it revolved around a drug empire run by a group of women in Rajasthan. However, there’s no official confirmation on the same.

As for Cocktail, the film themed on a new-age love triangle, also starred Randeep Hooda and Dimple. It opened to a favourable response from the audience and the critics alike. According to producer Dinesh Vijan, Saif wasn’t the first choice for the film but he insisted on doing it after reading the script. As per reports, Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan were the first choices.
