Alberto Colaco to look for his successor

Colaco has expressed his desire to move on from the Indian FA.

New Delhi: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) have begun their search to find a successor to the current general secretary Alberto Colaco.

After having met the acting AIFF President, Praful Patel on Wednesday and stating his desire of not continuing further in the capacity of the general secretary as Goal.com reported, Alberto Colaco has been entrusted with the task to find the man who would replace him. This is the second instance in the last six months or so, wherein Colaco has expressed his desire to move on from the Indian FA.

Speaking to Goal.com, Alberto Colaco said, "I have not resigned from the post of General Secretary of AIFF. Last December I had written to Praful Patel that I would not like to continue as the General Secretary. I was asked to continue as Dasmunsi was ill and Patel would be busy with the General Elections. When I met Patel on June 10, I told him we must start looking for a person to take over from me. Patel was very nice to say that he would like me to continue."

"When I explained to him the reasons why I wanted to go back to Goa, he requested me to start the process of looking for a suitable person and to leave only when I was confident that a suitable person had been found. Of course all this process will have to be done in close consultation with Praful Patel," he said.

Colaco has been reiterating the importance of younger generation taking over the administrative duties at the Indian FA which shall bring in a breath of fresh air. He also cited the ‘age factor' as one of the reasons which influenced his decision to give up the position he has held for a little more than eight years.

"The reasons I want to relinquish my position are as follows: a) I have been the AIFF Secretary for eight years. I have also completed 61 years. I think that this is the time for a younger and more dynamic person to take over. b) Personal reasons: I have family commitments. c) I had publicly committed long back that I would not continue beyond eight years as the Secretary of AIFF.”

When asked as to whether he had come across any potential candidates who could take over the mantle from him successfully, especially considering the vast knowledge which he possesses of Indian football, Colaco said,” Nobody is indispensable. I am sure that AIFF will be able to find a suitable person.”

The 61 year old remained tight lipped about his future plans and mentioned that he would continue to be involved with the people's game.

"(I have) Many (plans). Most of them related to football. Maybe something's related to the environment. Luckily I have a few options,” added Colaco.
