Bangkok: Iraq have the skill and determination to overcome chaotic preparations and reach the last eight of the Asian Cup, their Brazilian coach Jorvan Vieira said.
The Iraqis kicked off the tournament on Saturday with a 1-1 draw against co-hosts Thailand. All four teams in Group A have one point after Australia drew with Oman.
"We are the underdogs, but my boys can play good and we are very optimistic," Vieira said. "If we beat Australia (on Friday) we should go through to the second round."
Vieira took over only two months ago and has struggled to make players available for his squad. "My team is very good technically, better than anyone in this group in the first half of the match - we just have to keep this up."
"Now, we are all at the same level, and its all back in our hands," he added.
