With the 2024/25 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game being live, millions of players are already busy creating their first drafts for the upcoming season. FPL is the official fantasy football game for the Premier League. Boasting a player base of more than 10 million, FPL is one of the biggest fantasy football games across all domestic leagues. The launch of the 2024/25 FPL season follows a week of price reveals and some important announcements. New prices for football stars, including Erling Haaland, Cole Palmer and Mohammed Salah, have stirred discussions. Nearly four days ago, Haaland’s latest price tag of £15 million made him the first-ever player in the game to be priced more than £14 million.
With a budget of £100 million, let’s take a look at some of the best possible picks for the upcoming season.
Goalkeepers
Ederson (£5.5 million):
Manchester City’s Ederson will likely be one of the favourite picks in the goalkeeping department. He played a crucial role in helping the Pep Guardiola-coached side win a fourth consecutive Premier League title.
Emiliano Martinez (£5.0 million):
Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was fantastic for both club and country last season. Martinez helped Aston Villa acquire a Champions League spot with a fourth-place finish while also winning the Copa America trophy with Argentina.
Defenders
Andy Robertson (£6 million):
At a mere price tag of £6 million, Andy Robertson can be the perfect left-back option for FPL. He was impactful for Liverpool last season, leading them to an EFL Cup crown.
Ben White (£6.5 million):
Arsenal’s Ben White played a crucial role in helping the side finish in second place behind Manchester City in the Premier League last season.
Virgil van Dijk (£6 million):
Netherlands stalwart Virgil van Dijk proved to be a key figure in the defence for both Liverpool and the Netherlands last season. Having reached the Euro 2024 semi-final stage and winning the FA Cup with Liverpool, Van Dijk is an easy pick for the FPL draft.
William Saliba (£6.0 million):
Ben White’s defence partner, William Saliba also impressed under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal last season. He also became the first Arsenal outfield player to play every minute (3,240) of a Premier League season.
Kyle Walker (£5.5 million):
Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker might play a perfect role on the defence wing alongside Andy Robertson. The asking price of just a little over £5 million is arguably a bargain for the fullback.
Midfielders
Phil Foden (£9.5 million):
Having played a significant role in England’s journey at the Euro 2024, Phil Foden was also crucial in Manchester City’s Premier League coronation for a fourth successive time.
Declan Rice (£6.5 million):
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal squad finished second in the Premier League for a second-straight time which certainly would not have been possible without Declan Rice. He scored seven times and provided his teammates with 10 assists in 2023/24.
Alejandro Garnacho (£6.5 million):
Manchester United midfielder Alejandro Garnacho breathed some life into the Red Devils’ campaign last season. Apart from a stunning overhead kick, Garnacho also racked up his first Copa America title with Argentina.
John McGinn (£5.5 million):
Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn was also crucial in helping his side finish fourth in the Premier League. His reasonable price tag makes him an attractive pick for FPL.
Cole Palmer (£10.5 million):
One of the most expensive midfielders in the game, Cole Palmer enjoyed a brilliant season under Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea. While he didn’t win any silverware, Palmer notched 27 goals and provided 15 assists for the Blues.
Forwards
Rasmus Hojlund (£7 million):
Denmark’s Rasmus Hojlund enjoyed a stellar season with Manchester United. He helped the Erik ten Hag-coached side win the FA Cup earlier this year. Hojlund finished his campaign with 16 goals in a Red Devils shirt.
Rodrigo Muniz (£6 million):
Fulham forward Rodrigo Muniz scored 10 goals last season, leaving a huge impact. Muniz’s breakout campaign makes him a top pick for FPL.
Chris Wood (£6 million):
Rounding off the list is New Zealand and Nottingham Forest forward, Chris Wood. He had a promising last season that saw him notch 14 Premier League goals and one assist.
