New Delhi: The Argentinian's full debut for his new club is in some doubt after he aggravated an injury by slipping in the shower.
Mark Hughes has asked Argentina manager Diego Maradona to omit Carlos Tevez from his squad to face Russia in a friendly next Wednesday in Moscow.
"We don't think Carlos should play for his international team and we'd prefer him to stay back next week." Hughes told the club's official website.
"The Argentine doctor came over and he'll be speaking to Maradona today," he continued. "He'll probably want to check and see how Carlos is now."
"Ideally, I'd prefer that he wasn't selected. He's not trained all pre-season."
Hughes explained how Tevez got injured in the first place, laying some of the blame on the national side.
"He had an injury from his last international then banged the same area when he slipped in the shower in South Africa." the Citizen's boss explained.
"He'll be fine for the start of the season, but he's still not able to put his full weight on it."
