Guwahati: Kerala Blasters may not be the favourites to win the inaugural Indian Super League title but the team's leading marksman Andrew Barisic believes he has the ability to emerge as the competition's highest goal scorer and win the Golden Boot along with the trophy for his team on December 20.
In an interview to IBNLive Sports, the Croatia-born Australian footballer said he wants to be in the double digits for the first season and help the Blasters win and the Golden Boot can be a bonus added to it.
"I think there will be many goals scored in this ISL. I would love to be the top scorer. For me, as a striker, I want to score goals and help my team win every match. It won't be easy but I believe in myself."
The Kerala Blasters are co-owned by one of the best ever cricketers Sachin Tendulkar along with Hyderabad-based PVP Ventures chairman Prasad Potluri.
When asked about his meetings so far with the little master, Andrew said, "He is a wonderful man. He spoke to players the other day and told us about his plans. He is a big motivation to the boys and wants his team to be very successful."
Barisic, who played for Melbourne Knights in 2004 and then two years later played for Germany-based Oberliga Nord Club Arminia Hannover, was also very excited to be a part of this mega venture in India and wants to help India develop its football.
"I am delighted to a part of the Kerala Blasters in the first season. This is an exciting time in Indian football and I am looking forward to playing back in India again (he played earlier in I-League).
"I feel privileged to bring my passion and determination to the Kerala fans; and under the watchful eye of David James, I am pretty confident that the first year will be very successful for all of us."
The Blasters will play their opening match of the tournament in an away game against NorthEast United FC here today.
