Madrid: Rayo Vallecano scored a goal in each half to beat Getafe 2-0 on Friday and keep their crosstown rivals in the Spanish league's relegation zone.
Javi Guerra scored from a rebound after Getafe goalkeeper Vicente Guaita made back-to-back saves from a Rayo corner kick in the 15th minute.
Nicolas 'Miku' Ladislao missed two good chances before he finally added to the hosts' lead in the 71st by volleying in Pablo Hernandez's cross.
"It was a game against a direct rival and we are happy we got the win we deserved," Miku said.
Rayo's reserve goalkeeper Yoel Rodriguez was sent off from the team's bench with a red card for protesting early in the first half.
Rayo stayed 16th, two places ahead of Getafe who have gone 11 straight rounds without a victory.
"We have no margin of error," said Getafe's Juan Rodriguez. "We have seven finals left."
On Saturday, leaders Barcelona host third-place Real Madrid in a 'clasico' match, after second-place Atletico Madrid play Real Betis trailing the pacesetters by nine points.
