Valencia: Argentina's Mauricio Pellegrino will replace Unai Emery as coach of Valencia after the former player agreed to a two-year deal with the Spanish club.
Under Emery, Valencia clinched third place in the Spanish league for the third straight season, but the Basque coach, who took charge in 2008, was under pressure after the Spanish club lost to rivals Atletico Madrid for a place in the Europa League final.
Pellegrino was a Valencia player under Rafa Benitez when the club won a UEFA Cup-league double in 2004. In all, the Argentine stopper spent six years at Valencia as a player, between 1999 and 2005, where he won two La Liga championships and finished as a runner-up in the Champions League for two successive seasons.
The 40-year-old has not previously held the position of head coach at a club, but worked as an assistant to Benitez at Liverpool and Inter Milan.
Pellegrino's saved penalty in the 2001 Champions League final allowed Bayern Munich to win their fourth European Cup.
