Amidst the ongoing saga regarding the big transfer of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid, the La Liga leaders seem to be keeping their options open with the side eyeing Napoli’s Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen. Despite the striker’s lack of goals this season, the striker was a big part of Napoli’s league-winning campaign last season in the Serie A where he scored 26 league goals.
According to Football Transfers, senior board members of the La Liga giants have suggested that Osimhen would be a better fit for the club’s style of play. The forward had recently renewed his contract with Napoli with a €130m release clause as well.
The report also suggests that the senior figures at the club believe that the amount of investment required for Mbappe could surpass the club’s record transfer fees and believe that investing in Osimhen could be a better option saving some funds.
These senior figures in the Bernabeu believe that the money that would have been spent on Mbappe, who commands a huge wage and massive potential signing bonuses that likely surpass most transfer fees Real Madrid have ever paid, would be better being poured into a deal for Osimhen.
Real Madrid is currently not lacking in the goalscoring department with the English midfielder, Jude Bellingham taking La Liga by storm having scored 13 goals making him the top-scorer in the league at the moment breaking several records in his first campaign with the Los Blancos.

Madrid has also had a stellar start in the Champions League campaign as well with the side being unbeaten in the group stages of the tournament and will face the German side, RB Leipzig, in the round of 16.
Victor Osimhen on the other hand has not been able to get going in terms of goals after having picked up a hamstring injury in October. Currently, he has only eight goals in 18 appearances.

Napoli currently sits at the ninth spot in the Serie A table, a massive dip compared to their campaign in the previous year. They also managed to make it through the group stages in second position and will face FC Barcelona in the knockouts.
The star striker has now travelled to Ivory Coast as he is set to take part with the Nigerian team for their Africa Cup of Nations opener where they face Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.
Real Madrid has been eyeing the signature of Kylian Mbappe for quite some time now but with the Frenchman’s contract expiring this June, the Los Blancos could be looking to add the striker to fill the vacant slot and bolster their side once again. But the La Liga giants will keep their options open to avoid another nightmare similar to what happened on May 2022, leaving the Madrid side hanging despite the negotiations which went down.
