Real, Manchester United tried to sign me: Pele

New Delhi: Brazilian legend, Pele, revealed on Wednesday that Real Madrid tried to sign him during his playing days, along with Manchester United and Juventus, and that he still thinks Kaká is the best in the world.

Real Madrid might have had a few great players in their ranks during the years, but surely none are as famous as the Brazilian they tried to bring over from Santos.

Pele, also known as the 'The King', revealed on Wednesday that during his playing days los Blancos attempted to sign him, along with two of the other biggest clubs in world football.

"Real Madrid wanted me, along with Manchester United, and Juventus," he told Eurocalcio.

"In fact, the Juventus president almost reached a deal with Santos which included support from Fiat. I thought about coming to Europe a lot, but I preferred to stay with the team in my heart, Santos."

Pele, widely regarded as the best player to ever play football, also spoke about who he considers the number one in the world at the moment.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is an extraordinary player who reminds me of George Best, and at Manchester United they have another exciting player in (Wayne) Rooney, but I prefer Kaká," he declared.

"Madrid have tried to sign him but he has wanted to be faithful to Milan and he seems so happy. Why would he leave a team where they treat him perfectly and he can also win titles?"

No doubt Pele sees some of himself in the AC Milan player, who apart from being Brazilian, seems to be loyal to one club in particular in his career.

The Brazilian legend took a swipe at some of those other players who are not quite so attached to one club as he himself was, and Kaká seems to be.

"Today there are few players remaining who do what I did, or what Kaká does. It upsets me a lot to see players changing teams so often and always kissing the badge," he mused.

"In these condition, children do not know whether to support a team or a player, and one must remember one thing; without the love of children, football would die."
