Cristiano Ronaldo sent a stern notice to the world of football after he scripted a new record for his club Al Nassr. Ronaldo netted a brace in his last Saudi Pro League game of this season as Al Nassr registered a 4-2 win over Al Ittihad at the Al-Awwal Stadium in Riyadh on Monday, May 27.
On the back of his match-winning performance, the Portuguese superstar broke the record for scoring the most goals (35) in a single Saudi Pro League season. Ronaldo has dethroned former Al Nassr player Abderrazak Hamdallah, who recorded 34 goals in the 2018-19 season. Referring to his new achievement, Ronaldo wrote on Instagram, “I don’t follow the records, the records follow me.”

The post has attracted reactions from several members of the global football fraternity. Jadon Sancho, who has earlier shared the pitch with Cristiano Ronaldo in 37 games as part of Manchester United, dropped a ‘Goat’ emoji in the comment box, demonstrating his respect for the veteran forward.

Former Portuguese winger and Athletico de Kolkata player Zequinha also congratulated Cristiano Ronaldo on breaking an all-time Saudi Pro League record and branded him as “the best in history.” Shedding light on Ronaldo’s illustrious career, young Dutch midfielder Leandro Fernandes commented, “You are the records.”
Despite the win over Al Ittihad, Al Nassr are in no contention to win the Saudi Pro League this season. Al Hilal have already secured the title, beating the Cristiano Ronaldo-led side by fourteen points. Al Nassr have emerged victorious in 26 out of their 34 league games this season, finishing second in the table. Ronaldo has been the top performer for the Riyadh-based club, scoring 35 of their 100 goals in the 2023-24 Saudi Pro League.
Ronaldo will look to continue his goal-scoring spree when Al Nassr square off against Saudi Pro League champions Al-Hilal in the final of the King Cup of Champions. The big-ticket clash will take place at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah on May 31.
After wrapping up the club assignment, Ronaldo will shift his focus to the upcoming EURO, set to kick off on July 14. Under his leadership, Portugal triumphed in the European Championship in 2016, beating France in the final.
