Todd Boehly Set To Be Ousted As Chelsea Chairman In 2027: Report
While he is likely going to be removed in 2027, the American businessman could potentially make a return to the position in 2032 once the next five-year cycle ends.

Chelsea Chairman Todd Boehly will reportedly be ousted from his position at the club in 2027 by his fellow owners. Boehly and Clearlake Capital acquired the London-based football club in 2022 from Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.

Now, two years after the acquisition, a new report has emerged on TalkSPORT suggesting that majority owners Clearlake are planning to switch to a new figurehead at the club by the end of the 2026/27 season.

During the deal in 2022, the two parties had reportedly agreed upon a clause that would see the chairmanship pass between themselves every five years. Considering that, Chelsea are looking to activate the clause at the earliest opportunity in 2027.

Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital bought Chelsea together amid the Russia-Ukraine crisis. Due to political tensions because of his Russian nationality, the club’s former owner Roman Abramovich had to put the club up for sale. As per ESPN India, the takeover of the club was completed in May 2022 in a deal worth up to £4.25 billion.

While Boehly was leading the consortium, he acquired a minority stake in the club. Managed by Behdad Eghbali and Jose Feliciano, Clearlake owns 61.5 per cent of the London-based club. On the other hand, the remaining 38.5 per cent is split among Boehly, Hansjorg Wyss and Mark Walter.

Since the acquisition, Todd Boehly has been acting as the face of the Chelsea ownership group. The 50-year-old has attended several games of the Blues at Stamford Bridge. He has also taken a more hands-on role compared to his fellow investors. While he is likely going to be removed in 2027, the American businessman could potentially make a return to the position in 2032 once the next five-year cycle ends.

In his two years as Chelsea’s Chairman, Todd Boehly has overseen a transfer market spend of nearly £1 billion. Despite such a massive expenditure on acquiring new talent, the Blues are currently in 11th place in the Premier League.

The Mauricio Pochhettino-coached side also find themselves out of European competition for a second successive year, having finished in 13th place in the 2022/23 season. The club has also reportedly suffered losses of more than £90 million in Boehly’s tenure as chairman.

There is still no clarity as to who will be picked as the new chairman of Chelsea Football Club ahead of 2027. It could either be Behdad Eghbali or Jose Feliciano who takes up the role. They could also end up appointing someone for the said post.
