Rome: Hellas Verona scored late for a 1-0 win over Cagliari on Saturday that moved the northeastern club into provisional fourth place in Serie A.

Greece midfielder Panagiotis Tachtsidis found the target in the 89th minute at Verona's Bentegodi stadium with a long, powerful shot from beyond the area that was out of the goalkeeper's reach.

Verona had also hit the goal frame twice, first with a shot from Bosko Jankovic in the 71st and then with a header from former Italy centerforward Luca Toni in the 82nd.

Verona moved level with Sampdoria, four points behind leaders Juventus and Roma, who meet on Sunday.

Cagliari are one point above a group of four clubs at the bottom of the table.
