In a thrilling moment during the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL), veteran South African cricketer Imran Tahir pulled off something that left the crowd stunned. Tahir celebrated a remarkable wicket by mimicking footballer Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous ‘SIUUU’ celebration.
At 45 years old and captaining the Amazon Warriors, Tahir bowled a stunning delivery to dismiss Josh Clarkson of the SKN Patriots. After knocking over Clarkson’s stumps, Tahir immediately broke into Ronaldo’s signature celebration, and his teammates soon joined him in the jubilant moment.
The CPL’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle shared a clip of the celebration, captioned, “What a delivery.”

The CPL fixture between the Amazon Warriors and the SKN Patriots took place on September 4 at Warner Park. During the 10th over of the second innings, Tahir delivered a deceptive ball straight down the ground. The right-handed Clarkson attempted a wild swing, but the ball didn’t turn and crashed into the stumps. Witnessing the stunning wicket, the commentators highlighted how Tahir reaffirmed his position as the CPL’s leading overseas wicket-taker.
The match began with the Amazon Warriors amassing 266 runs in the first innings. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Shimron Hetmyer were the standout hitters, scoring 69 and 91, respectively. Hetmyer also smashed 11 sixes in his innings. In the second half, Tahir stole the spotlight, leading the defence by taking three wickets, dismissing Clarkson, Odean Smith and Ryan John. Tahir finished with figures of 3/48 in his four-over spell, securing a 40-run victory for the Amazon Warriors with his bowling performance.
What is Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘Siuuu’ celebration?
Over the years, Ronaldo has showcased a variety of celebrations, but none are more iconic than his signature ‘Siuuu’ move. This trademark celebration involves a mid-air spin, followed by Ronaldo exclaiming “si” (also spelled “siu”), which in Spanish means “yes,” as he lands. The joyful expression has come to symbolise his delight in scoring and has become synonymous with his goalscoring legacy.
This wasn’t the first time a cricketer imitated Ronaldo’s signature celebration. Just a few weeks ago, Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah pulled off the iconic move during a training session ahead of their two-match Test series against Bangladesh. In a fan-shared video on X, Naseem was seen walking with his teammates during practice. With a playful smile, the young pacer suddenly broke into the ‘SIUUU’ celebration, entertaining his teammates.
