Manchester: Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is ready and raring to go to South Africa to represent England at the World Cup this summer.
The United talisman has been in the form of his life this term, with his goal tally in all competitions reaching 30 goals after he hit a brace in a 4-0 Champions League victory over AC Milan at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.
Despite the fact that United have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League and are involved in a tight three-team race for a fourth Premier League title in a row, Rooney has eyes on South Africa.
“You try not to think about World Cup because you need to do your job for your club.
“But it’s hard not to think about it. You need to focus on your job but you’re always thinking about it.
“It’s a dream to play in the World Cup for England – an unbelievable feeling.”
With Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Old Trafford for Spanish giant Real Madrid in the summer, Rooney has playing as a central striker, a role that he is flourishing in.
“I’m scoring more goals because I’m spending more time in the box.
“I’ve been working on my timing and finishing and I’m working back less because I’ve played a lot more games up front on my own.”
