Aaron Taylor-Johnson is grabbing attention as he edges closer to securing the role of legendary spy James Bond. However, amidst the buzz, his personal life is again in the headlines due to his marriage to Sam Taylor-Johnson, who is 23 years his senior. The couple’s significant age gap, especially since Aaron was a teenager when they met, has been subjected to ridicule over the years. Despite facing challenges, they have remained committed to each other. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone UK, Aaron passionately defended their age difference and criticized people for mocking their relationship.
For those not aware, Aaron tied the knot with director Sam in 2012 after meeting on the set of the 2009 film Nowhere Boy. They welcomed their daughters, Wylda Rae and Romy Hero, in July 2010 and January 2012, respectively. Additionally, Aaron is a stepfather to Sam’s daughters, Jessie and Angelica, from her previous marriage to Jay Jopling.
Talking about the difference, Aaron Taylor-Johnson said, “What you gotta realise is that what most people were doing in their twenties, I was doing when I was 13. You’re doing something too quickly for someone else? I don’t understand that. What speed are you supposed to enjoy life at? It’s bizarre to me.”
“I’ve got really nothing to hide, and I’m secure in what we have,” he also added.
Despite the public disapproval, Aaron claims he always remains enthusiastic about working with his wife. The actor said, “Sam is actually a great filmmaker and a wonderful storyteller. People will think there’s sort of a bias to me saying it, but I think when they see Back to Black, everyone’s going to realise how fantastic a filmmaker she is.”
However, Aaron Taylor-Johnson also expressed certain hesitation about collaborating with Sam Taylor-Johnson on films. He revealed that there’s protectiveness towards their relationship and admitted that he feels responsible if their work faces challenges or fails.
Before marrying Sam, Aaron was in a relationship with actress Alice Connor. Meanwhile, Sam Taylor-Johnson is renowned for directing Fifty Shades of Grey and she is currently preparing for the release of a biopic on the life of the late Amy Winehouse titled Back To Black.
On the other hand, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is set to appear in Marvel’s upcoming film Kraven the Hunter. Additionally, he is currently a frontrunner in the race to take the iconic role of James Bond.
