Jake Gyllenhaal Is Open To Play Batman In James Gunn's Reboot: 'That’s A Classic'
Jake Gyllenhaal admired Batman and claimed that it would be an honour to play the Dark Knight in James Gunn's The Brave and the Bold.

Jake Gyllenhaal was once almost finalised for the role of Bruce Wayne in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, but the part ultimately went to Christian Bale. Despite missing out on the opportunity, Gyllenhaal’s interest in becoming the iconic cape crusader remains strong. Recently, during a press interview for his latest Prime Video action flick, Road House, Gyllenhaal was asked about his wish to play Batman. Surprisingly, the actor expressed his deep admiration for the character and claimed that it would be an honour to play the Dark Knight in James Gunn’s upcoming reboot, The Brave and the Bold. DC Studios is currently under new management led by Peter Safran and James Gunn, who has announced several interesting projects, including a new Batman film. While casting for the role is yet to begin, Gyllenhaal might be a convincing choice to portray the experienced superhero on the big screen.

Speaking with Screen Rant, Gyllenhaal said, “Oh, man. That’s a classic. It’s an honour. Speaking of playing roles that other incredible actors have played in the past, to me actually roles that other incredible actors have played in the past, which, to me, actually, when I think about it, I’m going to play Iago in Othello with Denzel Washington, and I think about like the history of actors that have played that role throughout time, and I’m intimidated by that. So that’s the first level. That’s what I’m working on right now. But of course. It would be an honour always. Those types of things and those roles are classics.”

In the past, Jake Gyllenhaal has come very close to landing major hero roles not once, but twice. Initially, there were talks of him playing Batman, and later, he was also considered for the role of Spider Man on multiple occasions. Despite facing rejections, Gyllenhaal eventually appeared in the superhero universe as the villain Mysterio in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man franchise alongside Tom Holland. However, fans are still waiting for the day when the talented Nightcrawler star will wear the superhero suit himself.

Meanwhile, The Brave and the Bold will be the first Batman film in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe. Previously, Gunn had hinted that the movie’s plot will revolve around Bruce Wayne discovering that he has a young son named Damian Wayne. Interestingly, the film will also feature appearances from other members of the Bat Family.

Apart from the Batman movie, the upcoming DCU slate includes, Superman: Legacy, The Authority, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Swamp Thing, Peacemaker Season 2, Waller, Creature Commandos, Paradise Lost and many more.
