Ryan Gosling's Wife Eva Mendes Skips 2024 Oscars; Here's Why
Although physically absent from the Oscars, Eva Mendes remained Ryan Gosling's biggest cheerleader from afar.

While Oscars 2024 marked a significant moment for Ryan Gosling, his wife Eva Mendes was notably absent from the event. This left fans curious about the reason behind yet another miss. However, to mark the special event, Gosling was joined by his mother, sister, and stepfather.

Eva Mendes, who typically keeps a low profile, was last spotted on the red carpet with Ryan Gosling back in 2012, during the premiere of their film The Place Beyond the Pines. Mendes has since taken a step back from acting to focus on raising their two daughters, Esmeralda Amada, aged 9, and Amada Lee, aged 7.

Although physically absent from the Oscars, Eva Mendes remained Ryan Gosling’s biggest cheerleader from afar. Ever since Barbie was announced, Mendes has been a steadfast supporter of her husband on social media. Today was no exception, as she took to her Instagram handle to share a video of herself dressed casually backstage and captioned the post, “Always by my man.”

In another post dedicated to her “Ken”, she wrote, “You took Ken all the way to the Oscar’s, RG.

Now come home, we need to put the kids to bed.”

Last year, Eva Mendes explained on Instagram the reason why she does not attend red-carpet events with Gosling. Alongside posting footage of the two of them in 2011’s The Place Beyond the Pines, Eva Mendes wrote, “Magic is Real. We did not meet on set. The magic started way before, but here’s a little magic captured on camera.”

Soon after, a fan commented, “Eva, I want to be honest w u, but I hope Barbie will get through the Awards Season just to see you w Ryan. I know I’m selfish and probably a dreamer, but I will never stop to dream about it!!”

In response to him, Mendes said, “You’re the best! What a cool comment; thank you. But we don’t do those things together…Like these photos I’ve been posting, I’m only comfortable posting because it’s already out there.”

In the second comment, she added, “Oh wait -for those who may catch me in a ‘lie’ -we only were on the red carpet together once when promoting this film.”

Meanwhile, Ryan Gosling set the Oscars stage on fire with his energetic performance on I’m Just Ken. Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster film Barbie earned 8 Academy Award nominations this year, including Best Picture.
